Sensitivity reading for gender diversity

You wouldn’t want your writing to unintentionally discriminate against anyone or alienate portions of the community, would you? Sensitivity reading can help you avoid this by using conscious, inclusive language that respects people of all backgrounds and identities.
You might think you know what to write and what not to write—but community and industry standards for inclusivity change over time. For example, until quite recently, using ‘he or she’ and ‘him or her’ to refer to a generic person was fine, but that has changed. (How? My next paragraph contains the answer!)
Thus, it’s best to have your writing reviewed by a sensitivity reader who has the background you’re concerned about, because they’ll be up to date with the most recent developments in their community’s language.
